The Philippines, Stealthy visits from God

Last week, May 14, we, the juniors profess and sister Leila, had our “day well spent” at Cottolengo Filipino, Gloria

Vista, Subdivision San Rafael, Montalban, a residential care for people who are abandoned, neglected, surrendered and unwanted PWDs run by the fathers and sisters of the little work of divine providence.

Getting out of the city of Manila, the noise, the work, the withdrawing to a quiet, natural place allowed us to get out of ourselves, to refocus on the Essential, to reconnect to God, to ourselves and meet the other different. Arriving there, we were greeted by the warm, joyful and simple welcome of the fathers, the children, the sisters, and the people outside. During the Eucharistic celebration, an atmosphere of peace, joy, grace reigned. “Let the children come to me”: they are a living inspiration that nothing is impossible as long as there is life with hope. Each child having a musical instrument well suited to their talent and ability, glorified God wholeheartedly. A single language united the neighbors, the children, the fathers, the sisters and us: the unconditional Love of God. We were touched by the love of the sisters and fathers for these children, their patience with them, their knowledge of each and their gentle closeness. We have witnessed to a Living Eucharist which urges us to live the Eucharist every day and to be Eucharist for the other.

As our day continued, we also had a sharing with each other. This sharing allows us to get to know each other better, to weave stronger bonds between us, to support each other, to increase trust between us and to abandon ourselves together with confidence in the hands of God on this journey in the religious life.
